more details on my piece below:

The portal is open! Will you turn to dust?

“Future’s Future” by Rae Red is a multimedia installation and performance using projection, scrim and visual poetry to explore the future’s future, the great (queer) unknown.  We will enter the portal into a world where we get to encounter the ancestors we will become in a time when it is easier to imagine the apocalypse than the end of late stage capitalism. In the future we are dust.

“Queer. Futures. Past: I’m a Ghost and So Are You” is a multimedia ritual performance and installation. An offering to the LGBTQ+ community of Baltimore City to collectively explore notions of queer lineage by summoning spirits of the past in order to see into the future.

“Queer Futures Past: I am Ghost and So Are You” examines personal and inherited queer erasure. Rae Red, Cliff Doby, Skye Fort, nine guest performers and two visual artists (listed below), playfully address their secret, ignored, and partially imagined queer lineage through a month-long installation at Current Space. Using a playful adaptation of spirit photography and sceances of the 1840s as the visual landscape of the piece, Queer Futures Past crafts a non-linear narrative experience combining personal, familial, and cultural histories, summoning spirits, and examining notions of harm and healing.

Red too Real (Cliff Doby, Theresa Columbus and Rae Red).

RED is Real (Red Ballad)

If Red were a color How would you feel it? Full of excitement. Shimmering and hot. Touching the steam. Sending a shock of adrenalin through your skin. Would it feel electric? Are you aroused? Are you full of shame? Because this is not the time, Not the time to feel lust, And luscious and Dipped in hot red tips And dirty thoughts about the Wrong people And things, And we’re just friends! Because Red is for real.

Red is Real (Red Ballad) began in the summer of 2019 and was set to debut in March of 2020, we all know why that didn’t happen! We are eternally grateful for the opportunity to bring it back to life and allow it to shift and evolve to become the piece that you see before you tonight!

Free show! But reservations are required! Click here to save your spot!

Mask required.

We are limiting capacity each night so peopple can sit at a safe distance so tickets are going fast!

October 7- 10th

doors at 7 show at 7:30

Red is Real is seeking donations to help cover the costs of production!

We would like to be able to pay our performers a descent wage (more than the measly stipend Towson provided which works out to be less than $1 an hour) and break even on the rest of production costs.

It is a free show and we like it that way! So we are asking you to donate any amount you can to help out!

We also have postcards, shirts, hats and tote bags for sale if you would like to support the work and also look fly as hell please do! visit the “SHOP” page or DM @red.rae.red on instagram to place an order.

THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT

Apartscape

July 17-19

Artscape is canceled this year, so join us for APARTSCAPE, an online diy tribute to the largest and hottest arts festival in the country! On July 17-19 we’ll gleefully broadcast via youtube and facebook live from living room couch forts and backyard kiddie pools across the city, in a loving celebration of the Baltimore arts scene.

Please note we are not in any way affiliated with Artscape or BOPA, just fans. This means that we are entirely self-funded, so if you’re down to support the lovely Baltimoreans that appear in Apartscape please contribute to our artists’ fund via venmo @apartscape or via paypal at https://paypal.me/pools/c/8qTr3hJzCH.

Make Studio Now See Hear Exhibition

In this year of the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage 19th amendment, and in recognition of the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26, we celebrate our increased access to representation and power, while knowing that there are still so many votes and voices that are left out. As part of “Now See Hear” we are using art to link voters with resources on how to register, connect with accessible voting supports (e.g., large-print ballots and online voting), and find information about candidates. (During National Disability Voter Registration Week, July 13-17th, be sure to check out concurrent events from our partners at Disability Rights Maryland.)

ON TOUR

August 2nd in Pittsburgh and

August 4th in Washington DC!

A surreal vaudevillian variety show: from performance art to classic song n’ dance numbers, experimental theater to Sunday morning comics. 8 Short Plays is poetry in dialogue, the plot is held together with a wild emotional logic. We watch the the inner-lives of the performers unfold as they fumble towards intimacy, embarrassment, and wonder. In the process, traditional forms are celebrated, taken apart, and reinvented.

8 Short Plays will be showing at the Mercury Theater starting on July 5th & ending on July 21st, on Friday through Sunday nights, showtime 8PM.

Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite for $15 or more, or pay what you can at the door.
